Blog Writing #4: Past Perfect (due Friday 6/1)

You had an appointment with me yesterday after class. You didn't come because something happened which prevented you from coming. What happened? Be creative. Extra points if you make me laugh. Use the past perfect.

A note to the students from the teacher...

Dear students,

Blog writing #1 was due last week and blog writing #2 was due Monday. Blog writing #3 is due before midnight.

For blog writing #1, 12 out of 16 students posted their writing.  That's 75%.  I have responded to all of you so go back and look if you haven't done so already.

I have also written comments to your writing for blog #2, so Petra, Yang, Diem, Diem, Bander, Sal, May, and Christian should look at what I've written.

That's half the class.  50%.

What happened to the other half of the class? What could explain this present result?

Wait, wait, let me guess...

1.  You've been partying lately.
2.  You've been doing Greg's homework but not mine.
3.  You've been dreaming about returning to level 4 (I can facilitate that!).

Whatever the excuse, I expect you to keep up with the work in the class. I give the blog work for you to practice writing and for me to see that you're learning the grammar lessons I've been teaching. Of course, on the one hand, I'm happy that not everyone writes because its less work for me to look at. However, your purpose in my class is to improve your grammar and your writing and this won't happen without some serious effort on your behalf, so for those of you who are already falling behind (and its only week 2), its time to kick into gear and get with the program RIGHT AWAY!

Case 2 (the event has been happening recently) or

Case 3 (the event happened recently but then stopped)?

Your topic sentences

Write a paragraph that is 8-10 sentences in length that supports your topic sentence with details, explanations, examples, and possibly statistics or quotes. After you write it, follow the requirements you will see on the "self-editing worksheet." If you were absent, that worksheet is in the back of the writing book on p. 317.

Bring your paragraphs along with your self-editing worksheet to class tomorrow. If you need me to print it out for you, send it as an attached file. 

Tomorrow in class you will peer edit each others' work. Then you will take it home tomorrow, correct and revise it (second draft), and then turn it in to me on Wednesday. I will collect both drafts with the self-editing worksheet and the peer-edit worksheet.
